This study investigated the effectiveness of self-compassion training in reducing psychological distress among mothers of children with externalizing behavior disorders. The research employed a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design with a control group and a one-month follow-up. The statistical population consisted of mothers whose children were referred to the Education Counseling Center of District One of Qom city during the 2022-2023 academic year. Thirty mothers were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (n=15 per group). The experimental group received 8 sessions of group self-compassion training. Assessments were conducted using clinical interviews and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS-21) at baseline, post-intervention, and follow-up. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) via SPSS-22. Results showed that self-compassion training significantly reduced psychological distress in these parents (P<0.01). The findings suggest that self-compassion training can be a highly effective component of parental education programs compared to traditional methods.
