This study was undertaken to design an educational package on the counseling needs of parents of junior high school students. This research had a mixed (qualitative and quantitative) design. The sampling was executed in two stages: first, semi-structured interviews were conducted with thirty parents until data saturation was achieved. Second, cluster multistage sampling method was utilized and 384 questionnaires were administered to identify the counseling needs of parents and their children at junior high school level. Data analysis included two parts: 1. exploratory qualitative type using non-parametric statistics, and 2. descriptive statistics as well as Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The results demonstrated that the top four priorities for parents’ counseling needs were respectively psycho-social, psycho-emotional, cognitive-educational, and moral-spiritual ones. Furthermore, there was a significant difference between girls and boys regarding their counseling needs priorities. This package can be a fruitful guideline for consulting services so that parents and their children’s needs are adequately fulfilled. |
