The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of informational-motivational and behavioral skills (IMB) self-care model on anxiety and depression of diabetic students. This quasi-experimental research had a pretest-posttest, control group design. The sample size consisted of 24 diabetic students selected through purposive sampling. The subjects were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received the treatment for 10 eighty-minute sessions. Data were collected by Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) and Maria Kovacs Depression Inventory (CDI). In order to analyze the data, analysis of covariance was used. Results showed that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the two groups in anxiety. More specifically, the intervention was effective in reducing the patients’ anxiety (P≤0.05). However, the intervention had no effect on the subjects’ depression. Therefore, the intervention based on this model can be applied to build better mental health for patients with diabetes and be used in clinics and therapeutic centers. |
